Brother Bear

There once lived a family of bears on Robinson street. The family consisted of a daddy bear, a momma bear, three sister bears and a brother bear; each family member had their own happy and sad stories to tell. This little story is the story of brother bear.

Brother bear can be considered a black bear for his preference of solitude. Or he can be considered an aggressive grizzly bear if he feels threatened. He is possibly a polar bear being forced to survive in his environment. One might say he is a panda bear for the tattoo on his arm and his Asian persuasion. If you asked me I would even call him a Kanye-esque “The College Dropout” bear that might be somewhere listening to “Through the Wire”. Let’s just say, he’s a complex bear.

Although brother bear has had many a stories to tell, today’s story is one moment of a lifetime. Once upon a time brother bear and little sister bear went to a festival. The music was flowing, the energy was palpable. The sibling bears could almost taste the high. At the height of the excitement one of brother bear’s favorite musicians was taking the stage. A big smile spread across his face as he stood up in all his glory. Brother bear was a force to be reckoned with when his mood fit the scene just right. As music started playing everything around the siblings jumped up two wavelengths; the crowd frenetic, the lights flashes of color, the air full of adolescent memories and singalongs. Brother bear was intoxicated by the simple act of being right there in that moment, gulping up the atmosphere. As the musician started rapping brother bear’s voice rumbled along, the lyrics a symbol of a life experience he related to. Little sister bear couldn’t help but watch brother bear in this one moment of perfect happiness. Not everyday was so full of contentment for him and in his happiness his soul shined bright. In between songs brother bear grabbed sister bear by the shoulders with wide eyes and his big bear paws, “do you know how much I love you little sis?!!!” he roared. If only he knew he was like a Gemini twin to his sister: kindred spirits, mirrored childhoods connected by the ethers through more than just genetics. “I love you too brother bear,” little sister bear whispered, tears rolling down her cheeks.
